This Year's Model Updates:

The Silverado gets a makeover this year that includes a new front fascia and revised side moldings and taillights. Top-of-the-line models get power-folding heated mirrors with puddle lamps and turn signal indicators. On the inside, the Silverado is the first full-size pickup to offer a Bose stereo system and XM Satellite Radio. The instrument panel and center console have been redesigned, and Chevrolet has added new seats, a more comprehensive driver information center and a dual-zone climate control system. For increased safety, Silverados now feature a standard front-passenger-sensing system and dual-stage airbags. On the hardware side, all 4.3-liter V6-equipped Silverados and California-emission V8s are now ULEV-certified, while electronic throttle control is now standard on all V8 engines. The Autotrac four-wheel-drive system has been modified for less intrusiveness at low speeds, and the brake system received upgrades that provide better pedal feel and improved overall performance.

Pros:
  • Roomy extended-cab models, strong V8 engines, innovative features.
Cons:
  • Cheap interior materials, questionable build quality.

The problems on this Silverado are numerous. The biggest are the brakes. You need to push the pedal to the floor in order to get the truck to stop and sometimes that doesnt do it. In less than 30,000 miles I have had the steering column greased, then replaced. Heater replaced, and power window motor replaced. These are annoying, but the brakes are dangerous.

I love my truck. It is comfortable to drive, easy to handle and I feel safe and secure at all times. Going from a small 4 dr sedan to a full size truck, gave me more visability on the road. I have had no mechanical problems. I just do the normal maintenance and she runs like a dream.

  • Great Value, Reliable Truck - 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

I bought this truck with 30K miles, and have driven it to 80K with not a single problem. I regularly get 20 MPG on mostly highway driving, and it is comfortable on longer trips. Ive also owned a Ford F150 and Ford Ranger, and its unreal how much more room this extended cab has in it. I cant imagine how much the double cab has. This has been a great ownership experience and I love this truck. I see many with 150-200K miles so I look forward to owning this one for a while.

The inside of the extended cab really surprised me, Im 62" and i fit nice in the backseat. Had hauled heavy, heavy stuff and it was like it loved working and this is only a V6. I used this also on vacations, 8 to 10 hour drives, with two kids in the back. Its a ready to use for all occasions.

  • SS Experience - 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Xlnt features, I was impresed by the exterior styling. I thought that the extra body molding on the SS made the truck look leaps and bounds better than ther stock styling of the Silverado. In fact, I always thought GM was lacking in the styling of the "03 Silverado until I saw the SS. I am still trying to learn all of the electronic control features available re: personal, buisness and annual mileage, current mileage etc. Remote control and memory seats are an option that should be available in every vehicle. Six disc Bose CD in the dash is a great option.

One of the best riding trucks I have ever had when I can get it away from my wife who loves to drive it more than her SUV.

  • Not great, not bad - 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Ive had this truck for 6 years now - 122,000 miles. Not a horrible truck but had problems right from the beginning. Interior air flow "gate" made noises when set to 100% dash flow. Clunking noises developed in steering/front suspension when turning sharp corners. Then the instrument panel gages started failing (water temp and oil pressure). Had it checked out - it was the gauges. Now getting the "wipers wont turn off" problem that GM trucks have had since 1994. Poor elec design with no desire from GM to fix. Funny that GM issued a recall for the tailgate cable but wont fix or do a recall for problems that cost real money such as these. This is probably my LAST GM product.

  • This is the top of the line truck - 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

I just traded my 2001 in on a 2003. They have made this truck so great now. The Bose stereo is so nice. Sounds great. Plus the controls on the steering wheel is a big plus. What can I say about a truck that ranks number one each year.

  • Just a really nice Chevy truck! - 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

This is a really nice truck! It has a nice style, inside and out. The interior is not cheap like some reviews that I have read. The truck is very comfortable to drive. It took me alittle while to get used to the extra length especially when parking due to the extended cab but the payoff is all the extra room. The backseat also has more room than other trucks than I have seen. There is plenty of power with the 5.3 V8 and the ride is smooth. The fuel economy is better than I expected with a big truck with a V8.
